What causes teeth to discolor?
The foods you eat and drink, certain medications, and aging all contribute to yellowing and staining of teeth. Surface stains on the enamel, can result from drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine, and can wreak havoc on white teeth. Additionally, habits such as tobacco use and smoking can cause damage to white teeth as well.
Additionally, as you age, your enamel begins to wear down, allowing more of the underlying darker dentin layer inside your tooth to show through, which is what creates the yellowing effect.
At Madison Dental Studio, we offer the most advanced whitening treatments available, from both KöR whitening and Opalesence whitening. We will provide a free consultation to discuss which whitening option is best for your smile.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Whitening your teeth is a safe process when you leave it to the professionals. The team at Madison Dental Studio provides whitening treatments for safe, satisfying results. You can get your teeth whitened in just 1-2 appointments, or whiten them more gradually with a take-home teeth-whitening kit.
In both cases, the whitening solution is placed on your teeth, and a blocking agent is used to protect your gum tissue. You may experience minor, temporary gum and tooth sensitivity as a result of the bleaching agents. However, this generally resolves itself quickly.
When you’re ready, the team at Madison Dental Studio will thoroughly clean your teeth and then fits upper and lower dental trays into your mouth. The trays are filled with a whitening solution, while your gums and lips are covered to protect them from the solution. The specific whitening process we choose for your teeth depends on the type of discoloration you have, the duration of the staining, previous whitening history, and additional dynamics that are specific to achieving the best results for your teeth.
At the end, one of the team members will apply a gel to your teeth to minimize any sensitivity you may feel. When it’s finished, you leave with whiter teeth and a gorgeous smile. The Madison Dental Studio team can also provide take-home teeth-whitening kits for a more gradual approach to whitening teeth over a couple of weeks.
